Clients and Case Studies
Pure Hacking started in 2002 and since then we have built a highly regarded reputation based on our fierce independence and pioneering approach to IT security. We have conducted security reviews for thousands of systems, networks, devices and applications across every industry sector.
Our clients are generally mid-level to enterprise and from many sectors including:
- Banking/Finance/Credit Unions
- Professional Services
We are very proud to report that we have grown every year since we began. Pure Hacking still works with many clients that used our services way back in 2002. For security reasons, we do not list our client names on our website. But plenty of our clients have told us they are happy to tell our prospective customers about the ways that Pure Hacking has added value to their IT security systems. Contact us for details.
We don’t publish the names of our clients, but most are so impressed with our services, they are happy to recommend our work to prospective customers and outline the ways that Pure Hacking has added value to their IT security. Below are some case studies with identities withheld, but the detail of our work has been approved for release by our clients. Contact us for reference details.
Finance Case Study – Onsite Assessment
The client was an international non-bank lender with an Asia-Pacific focus and thousands of employees. Although management was aware of the concept of a penetration test, they didn’t know where to start or how to assess the risks within their systems. Security was recognised as a specialised skill set, one not available in-house. The client hired Pure Hacking to conduct both an external infrastructure penetration test and an internal infrastructure penetration test.
Pure Hacking started the project with an onsite assessment. However, during the assessment we uncovered a criminal hacking attack that was underway, unknown to the client. The attack was stopped and the infrastructure was immediately secured without further damage to the business from the hacker. As a result of that initial engagement, Pure Hacking was asked to return for a code review of the application practices. The business is now very robust from a security perspective and continues to enjoy an excellent level of safety.
Communications Case Study - External Infrastructure Penetration Test
The client was an international carrier of combined Voice, IPL and IP data services delivering business voice, data, IP and satellite products. The company has offices in many countries, and thousands of employees.
Business-to-business links are the core service offerings of this client, so it has significant corporate internet exposure. Continual operation of services is critical to business effectiveness and during a due-process audit, internet security was identified as a business necessity.
Pure Hacking performed an external penetration test, resulting in the identification of a number of issues which internal employees were able to fix. As a result of our involvement with the business, devices and applications are now produced error-free, in a safe manner that is also fit for purpose. The company remains today a client of Pure Hacking.
Business Services Case Study - External Infrastructure Penetration Test and Web Application Secure Code Review
The client was a business services corporation with presence in USA, Europe and Asia Pacific. The security of the network had never been tested. The internal auditor recommended that a test be performed to identify potential security issues related solely to external threats.
Pure Hacking tested the infrastructure and reviewed a client-developed application. The infrastructure was found to be robust; however, the application gave the team access to, and ultimately complete control over, the IT infrastructure. We guided the client’s team to make no-cost simple changes to the application so that it now operates in a safe manner.
The client’s application development team was given a new perspective on coding as a result of the testing. In recognition of the value that we provide, the business enjoys an ongoing relationship with Pure Hacking.
Educational Facility Case Study - Internal Infrastructure Penetration Test
The client was an Australian facility with a local campus and distance education offerings. Students were continually attacking other installations using the client’s infrastructure, causing significant problems for management. The organisation wanted to test the installation of a data centre, a class B network and some specific infrastructure.
Pure Hacking tested the infrastructure and produced a database of issues and resolutions. Following our work, the Security Manager was able to communicate the real security issues facing the business, and could gain approval for policy development. As a result, the facility has improved its security stature significantly. Pure Hacking enjoys an ongoing relationship with the educational facility ensuring its ongoing safety.
Our clients all have a common need - to identify threats and mitigate risk. Contact Pure Hacking today to find out more about how working with us can protect your valuable business intelligence assets.
