Finance Case Study - Internet and On Site Assessment

The challenge

The client was an international non-bank lender with an Asia-Pacific focus and thousands of employees. Management were aware of the concept of a penetration test but didn’t know where to start or how to assess the risks within their systems. Security was recognized as a specialized skill set that was not available in house. The client hired Pure Hacking to conduct an External Infrastructure Penetration Test and Internal Infrastructure Penetration Test

Pure Hacking Results

Pure Hacking conducted an Internet Assessment, and attended on site. During the assessment, we determined that the business was currently under a criminal hacking attack unknown to the client. The attack was stopped and the infrastructure was immediately secured without further cost to the business. As a result of that initial engagement, Pure Hacking was asked to return for a code review of the application practices. The business is now very robust from a security perspective and continues to enjoy their current level of safety.

Communications Case Study - External Infrastructure Penetration Test

The challenge

The client was an international carrier of combined Voice, IPL and IP data services delivering business Voice, Data, IP and Satellite products. The company has over 100 years of experience in the industry, offices in many countries, and thousands of employees.

The client has significant corporate Internet exposure, with business to business links representing the core service offerings. Continual operation of services is paramount to the effectiveness of the business, and security was identified as a business necessity during the auditory due process.

Pure Hacking performed an external penetration test, resulting in the identification of a number of issues which were rectified by internal employees. As a result of Pure Hacking’s involvement with the business, devices and applications are now produced error free, in a safe manner that is also fit for purpose. Business Services Case Study - External Infrastructure Penetration Test and Web Application Secure Code Review

The challenge

The client was a business services corporation with presence in USA, Europe and Asia Pacific. The network had never been tested in relation to security. The internal auditor recommended that a test be performed to identify potential security issues related solely to external threats.

Pure Hacking Results

Pure Hacking tested the infrastructure and reviewed a client-developed application. The infrastructure was found to be robust; however, the application gave the team access to, and ultimately complete control over, the IT infrastructure. The changes to the application were simple, without cost, and the application now operates in a safe manner. The client’s application development team was given a new perspective on coding as a result of the testing. In recognition of the value that we provide, the business enjoys an ongoing relationship with Pure Hacking.

Educational Facility Case Study - Internal Infrastructure Penetration Test

The challenge

The client was an Australian facility with a local campus and distance education offerings.  Students were continually attacking other installations using the client’s infrastructure. This caused significant issues for management. The business wanted to test the installation of a data centre, a class B network and some specific infrastructure.

Pure Hacking Results

Pure Hacking tested the infrastructure and produced a database of issues and resolutions. Following our work, the Security Manager was able to communicate the real security issues facing the business, and was then able to gain approval for Policy Development.
